STS-41-G was the thirteenth mission of the Space Shuttle program and was launched on October 5, 1984. The mission was notable for many reasons, including being the first shuttle flight to have two women, Kathryn D. Sullivan and Sally K. Ride, on the crew. The primary objective of the mission was to deploy the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS), which would study the Earth's radiation balance and provide valuable data on climate change. The crew also conducted a number of scientific experiments, including studying the behavior of liquids and crystals in microgravity. The mission was a success, and the ERBS operated for more than two decades, providing scientists with important data on the Earth's climate.
